After a decade or so, we go back to one of the smallest restaurants around town. Perhaps at best 30 seats but they have their loyal following. The founder has passed the restaurant to his Son who was there just as it was getting busy. Located near 33rd avenue and Main Street this diner has been feeding the community good hearty Vietnamese staples. We ordered the meatball and sub plus a lemongrass chicken on rice . Both came quickly and piping hot. The bread was soft and warm and the meat dumplings were good size in a tomato broth.. the lemongrass chicken had two thighs on a bed of lettuce and white rice with a few tomato wedges.. more than plenty Service was quick and efficient

We came in on 4pm Saturday. The restaurant wasn't busy. The first thing I noticed was that the owners and the servers were not Vietnamese. They were decisively Chinese. We ordered Bánh mì Dac Biet and Pho Tai Nam Bo Vien. The only reason for the four stars is the Bánh Mì. Grant it, I've only tried a handful of popular Bánh mì places in Vancouver so far but Au petit Cafe's Bánh mì is by far the best. It has a nice ratio of meats and veggies/cilantro. The daikon and carrots are pickled properly with a nice tartness and sweetness, much better than a few other Bánh mì places I've been to. My only small complaint is that their Bánh mì Dac Biet doesn't have pork pâté in it. Their Bánh mì are a little bit on the pricey side but to me it's well worth that $1 extra. Their pho, however, doesn't taste authentic Vietnamese. It's average at best. In the future I will probably visit here often to get their Bánh mì to go. By the way, sometimes they run out of Bánh mì early. We came again on Sunday for Bánh mì at 3pm and they were completely out. Be sure to come early to avoid disappointment.

I would've never heard of this place if not due to a friend's recommendation. Parking was hard to find and this place is cash only!! We went on a Saturday during lunch time - no wait, but the place was full with high turnovers. what we ordered: [#1 Banh Mi Dac Biet] $6.50 - super yummy, would recommend [#12 Shredded Pork Salad Rolls] $10 - filled with a lot of veggies, pork had no presence [#24 BBQ Lemongrass Boneless Chicken in Noodle Soup] $12.95 - was super bland, nothing special Verdict: I would come back for the Banh Mi, but not for the other stuff.
