Back in the summer of 1972, in Pasadena Texas, I was with my friends at the beach when I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever set eyes on. In that very moment, I vowed to marry her one day. From a friend of a friend, I later learned her name was Tori. After work, I used to drive over to the pier in my busted old Ford F-100, and hope to catch a glimpse of her - Once I worked up the courage to talk to her, I learned the crush was mutual. We grew very close, and it wasn't long before we were dating. I look back fondly on those warm nights at the drive-in, nestled closely in the bed of my truck; or when we would take hits of the devil's lettuce, and listen to her record player - we really bonded over our love of Genesis. By 1978, she had graduated college, and I was managing a Mcdonald's in town. Every time I got a paycheck, I saved as much of it as I could, until I could buy a ring that I knew she had had her eyes on. I proposed, she said yes, and we had our wedding in June of that year. I remember seeing her, in her frilly lace dress, and thinking back to the very first time we met in 1972. I had done it - married the most incredible woman. We were so happy. We had 2 children - Phil and Floor, 2 years apart, and they were our pride and joy. Tori and I loved them unconditionally, and our house was always filled with love, laughter, and music. We couldn't wait to watch them grow up and lead lives of their own, and I couldn't wait to grow old with Tori, the love of my life. On December 23rd, 1984, Tori went to take the kids to a movie, while I finished wrapping our Christmas presents. A semi-truck collided with the car, and that was it. All 3 were gone instantly. I have been crushed ever since that awful, awful day. I spend a lot of time wondering what I'm still doing here, without them. I quit my job and moved out of Pasadena, and tried to travel, but everything reminds me of them. Every single day, I wish that I had been in that car with them, or that I could somehow trade my life for the three of them. A few days ago, I passed through Toronto, and saw the sign for Tori's Bakeshop. I thought 'what the hell' - maybe this was some kind of message from God. I went in, and the staff were all so kind. One of the baristas there, Chloe, looked just like Tori, and it took everything I had not to break down right there. I got the purple lemonade, and while I sipped it, I thought back to the lemonade that Tori used to make for the family when it was hot out. It tasted perfect. Since then, my suffering hasn't eased in the slightest, but I think that when I die, I would hope to come back as a worker at Tori's bakery.
