Dommage.

We were walking back from Turin’s Parco del Valentino towards the city centre looking for somewhere for lunch, not much was open as it was a Sunday, when we came across Sakaposh restaurant. After checking the menu, we asked if we could eat outside and where slight surprised not to be given one of the tables on the street outside but where led though to a cosy little terrace at the back of the restaurant.
There were four different set menus, each with four courses, following the classic Italian style of starter, pasta, main then desert, though you choose dishes from between the different menus if you wanted. The menu was only in Italian, but the waitress did an excellent job of translating and we took a small glass of prosecco while we thought about what we wanted.
I chose the asparagus themed menu and my wife chose the traditional menu. We asked of recommendation of a light red wine and the waitress did an excellent job of choosing for us. The local wines are not so light, but we were given the lightest they had and it went very well with the food.
The food as well cooked and beautifully presented. The menu came with an amuse-bouche of courgette flour stuffed with ricotta, battered, and then deep fried, possibly my favourite part of the meal, and also a melon sorbet between the main course and desert.
After the meal, the waitress, who turned out to be the restaurants owner, came and chatted with us. The restaurant was just over one years old, they’d celebrated their first birthday in March, last month.
She chatted to us about her time in working London in the restaurant industry in London and what it was like setting up a restaurant in Italy. She told us that only by working with her mother, the pastry chef, and her brother and thus able to benefit from tax breaks from running a family business where they able to afford to setup the restaurant.
Her time working at several of London’s Michelin stared restaurants, showed in the in the quality of the food and the service. I think she has ambitions to get her own Michelin stars.
A very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. The bill came in at a very reasonable 117€, which I thought was very reasonable.
We asked of the business card of the restaurant and it was only when I got home I noticed the tag line of the restaurant was: Eat, sip, meet, repeat.
