First things first. They know how to cook seafood. But I have an issue with this place which I’ll hold on to for a bit. We started with the scallops which were ridiculously good. I then had the sablefish. My family had the black cod and wild salmon. The fish on each dish was outstanding and cooked perfectly. Arguably the best we’d ever had. Now for the issue. The restaurant is frozen in time. It was born out of the demise of the Cannery restaurant 14 years ago and although the quality remains, the dishes have not evolved. Each dish has the exact same garnish: mashed potatoes, grilled peppers, asparagus. Cooked very well mind you. There may be a different sauce but that’s it. The presentation hasn’t changed since the days of the Cannery either. Now this is great news for boomers and their parents who have fond memories of the old days but it will not bode well for the new generation of foodies. My suggestion to the chefs, bring in fresh blood. Show them how to cook fish. Let this TIkTok generation show you how to be imaginative with the garnishes. Oh and by the way the way, scrap the whole desert menu and start from scratch. My family and I had a very unpleasant dining experience at The Pink Peppercorn Seafood House on Kingsway in Vancouver last night (July 11th). We ordered seafood platter, calamari, lobster bisque and a trio of tartar as appetizers, and they were very good. However, when our main courses arrived, the pacific rim seafood pasta linguine and west coast bouillabaisse were disappointing. All the seafood in the dishes was overcooked, making the fishes tough and the scallops hard to chew and swallow. When the server asked how the food was, we honestly told him that the seafood was overcooked. He seriously asked if we wanted to change or cancel the order, but we just wanted to provide feedback. Later, the server dropped a business card on the table and suggested we email our comments to the chef, which we found unusual. About 10 minutes later, the chef approached us, explaining that deep-sea fish must be overcooked for safety reasons, as he had learned in his 16 years as a chef. We pointed out that even the scallops were hard to swallow, but the chef dismissed our feedback and insisted he had done nothing wrong, speaking in a rude manner. We simply wanted to inform the restaurant about the overcooked seafood and had no intention of seeking compensation. However, given the chef€™s dismissive attitude, we will not be returning to or recommending The Pink Peppercorn Seafood House to anyone. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: CA$60€“70
