My family and I have been loyal customers of this bakery for over 15 years. We’ve always enjoyed coming here, especially during the summer when we would grab pizza and bike back home together. Because of that long history, it’s very disappointing to have to write this review. Recently, I called in the morning to ask if they could hold two slices of pizza for my mom. When I picked them up and brought them home (I live only two minutes away), I noticed they had been wrapped in a different type of paper than they used in the past. They used to wrap slices in foil/ parchment( parchment touching the food). This time, they are usually a new paper wrapping that is red checked on one side and regular parchment on the other. they wrapped the pizza red side up ( which is obviously wrong)and it leaked red dye onto the pizza. The entire bottom and sides were stained red. It was potato pizza — which has no red toppings — so it was very obvious something wasn’t right. I immediately called the bakery, assuming it was an honest mistake. Instead of concern, I was met with attitude on the phone. I was told to bring it back, and they reassured me that the paper was “food grade” and “food safe.” While I understand that, it doesn’t change the fact that no one wants to eat pizza covered in red dye. Food-safe or not, it simply didn’t feel right. When I returned, I was directed to the owner’s son. Unfortunately, the interaction only got worse. I was met with an unbelievable amount of attitude and the comment, “What do you want? I don’t see a problem.” There was little willingness to acknowledge the issue. After over a decade of supporting this business, I was shocked at how dismissive and rude the response was — especially over an $11 pizza a simple “ no problem let us replace it” would have sent me on my way happy. This situation could have been handled so easily with a respectful attitude. I was fully prepared to move on from what I believed was an honest mistake. Instead, I was made to feel like I was being unreasonable and as if i was the crazy one soo rude! In the end, I said thank you, and he simply turned his back and didn't acknowledge me. Id also like to mention that i told them that i remember you guys use to use a different wrapper paper? And he quickly shut me up and said. “No we didn’t” Which is a lie as im attaching photos of the old paper. Also attaching photo of the pizza they gave us the second time to replace the potato one and would you look at that paper leak all over hand lol. Very proud people who have a hard time admitting their faults. The owner should not let that younger kid speak for his business as he seems to have an anger problem/ cant take criticism from a CUSTOMER and also cant be honest about the old paper they use to have. McDonald's has better service. EATALY HAS better service and they are double their price and always willing to fix their mistakes. Shame shame. It’s not about the $11. It’s about customer service and how loyal customers are treated. Sadly, because of this experience, they have lost not just one customer, but many members of my family as well as we all think this was simple matter however it was dealt with pride and arrogance. Very disappointing It is hilarious how you choose to respond with attitude, pride and lies. Confirms my point. You never gave it to me for free, i paid. Let’s break it down: You first gave me a product that had ink on it & i came back asked for a new one. This was not a “character attack.” It was an honest account of how I felt during the interaction. A simple apology( that i never received) and respectful communication would have made this a non-issue. Instead, the tone both in person and in this response reinforces the dismissiveness I experienced. It’s unfortunate that accountability and respectful customer service are being framed as unfair criticism. Just because you are “ small family business “ doesn’t mean you get away with poor custom services, you offer something and if you offer it poorly you don't get service, shocker. Service: 1

Tina, at this point it feels like the story continues to shift. You state you “never received an apology,” yet the owner apologized directly to you in person. You state nothing was given for free, yet you left with replacement slices. The issue was addressed immediately. That is the reality of what happened. You’re absolutely entitled to share how you felt, but repeatedly framing this as dishonesty, arrogance, or “anger problems” is where it stops being simple feedback and becomes a public attack on someone’s character. You received a product. You were unhappy. You were told to bring it back immediately. It was replaced. An apology was given. That is a resolved situation. What’s difficult to understand is why, after resolution, this continues to escalate into accusations of pride, lies, and poor character. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Personal insults are not! Being a small family business does not mean we are exempt from accountability, and we did take accountability by correcting the issue on the spot. But being a customer does not mean you are exempt from extending basic courtesy either. We show up every day, work long hours, and serve hundreds of people with care. We are human. Packaging changes happen. Honest mistakes happen. What matters is how they’re handled, and this was handled immediately. At the end of the day, kindness costs nothing. You never truly know what someone behind the counter may be dealing with personally. Choosing to continue escalating a situation that was already corrected says more about the intent than about the service. We stand by the way this was resolved. Respect and accountability go both ways!

I had been going to this bakery since 1989 when we moved to Mississauga. Their products were excellent and the ambiance delightfully homey. Since the renovations I find it far too pretentious, there are no prices on the items, and the products are limited. The price of a small ice cream was $6.00! and she refused to add a third flavour. It has lost its homey atmosphere, too money grabbing m, too pretentious I'm am not returning. I have no idea why the rating is so high. But I have my suspicions Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Having been a customer since 1989, it’s surprising that a pricing difference would lead to such extreme conclusions about the business. If a renovation and visible quality ingredients are considered “pretentious,” then expectations may simply differ. For clarity, we haven’t served gelato since the summer. When we do serve gelato, it’s made with authentic ingredients imported from Italy, not mass-produced ice cream full of preservatives. $6 for true Italian gelato is fair, especially when grocery stores charge similar or more for lower quality. As for suggesting our rating is “suspicious,” we stand behind it. Our reviews reflect real customer experiences and continued support. We stand by our product, our pricing, and our standards.

I found Lazio Italian Bakery by chance on Maps and so happy that I found this gem. The most delicious slice of vegetarian pizza and tiramisu dessert was purchased here! The highlight was the $8 price tag for lunch- reasonable for the portions. Service was fast on a busy Sunday afternoon, I was in-and-out in less than 5 minutes. Looking forward to another visit when I'm in the area.
