To sum up a birthday service: our server, pleasant and detached but either snowed under from the 10-top behind us or checked out and waiting to clock out, was asked multiple times about whether the dessert would include a candle. She was prompted again minutes before I reappeared from the washroom. We shared the nice, light, perfectly fine dessert - some shaved nuts, tangerine, marmalade in yogurt in a small bowl ($30, comped) - without the candle. We finished (napkins on the table, cutlery deposited) and she returned, awkwardly, to stick a small birthday candle in two dilapidated spoonfuls of remaining yogurt. She offered a hasty “omgimsorry, happy birthday” before zooming off. I want to stress: I understand that mistakes happen and we were very kind and understanding, but coming back to do that to an already finished dessert was completely oblivious, tactless, and frankly, embarrassing. The food is perfectly acceptable, small shared plates of mostly middling, trendy Asian fusion - great crudo, very salty beef short rib fajitas, fine homemade chicken balls, lobster ramen mush. The restaurant looked nice from behind the alcove we were seated. Inexplicably, we were charged $27 x 2 for a double Maker’s Mark on the rocks - I see another reviewer mention improper billing so I would double-check your bill. A good restaurant is as much the ambience and attention to detail as it is the creativity in the food. I really wish we had gone to any of the multitude of other great restaurants in the city to celebrate a special occasion - there are so many places that deserve your money and time. I will not recommend Lake Inez. Impersonal, gimmicky, and forgettable (maybe not soon enough for me).
