One of the most traumatic experiences of my life because I was, literally, about to die. In August I went to La Vecchia Latteria with my boyfriend and two vegan friends. I have been allergic to dairy products and eggs since birth, at the table we only ordered vegan dishes clearly marked on the menu, assuming that in a historic vegetarian restaurant they knew the meaning of the word "VEGAN". After the first bite of fried peppers I realized I was eating eggs, I immediately took a cortisone tablet, stopped eating and tried to calm down while the medicine took effect. After two hours the strongest anaphylactic reaction I have ever had occurred and an ambulance took me to the nearest hospital with a yellow code. I returned to the restaurant the following day to report the incident, with the report under my arm. The girl who cooks was kind, she was very insistent on giving me my meal money back, but she totally denied the fact that there might be eggs, as she cooks everything herself. I cannot trust a person who says this in the face of such a reaction, which my body knows so well. Then he surmised that it could have been the peanut oil (which doesn't cause me any kind of problem) used for frying that was hurting me, pointing out that no allergens are listed on the menu. In hindsight I should have asked her to show me the kitchen, show me the recipes, or something, I don't know. I have no idea why so many restaurateurs have the habit of downplaying and leaving out ingredients on your plate until you warn them that you might die. Is it the murder charge that scares them? Don't they understand that there are many things they can do first, such as being honest about the ingredients used and recognizing that their choices have direct and immediate consequences on people's lives? In addition to the physical damage, I left La Vecchia Latteria with the feeling of having been bypassed, my words (and the medical report) were questioned and I was given no certainty of what what I ate contained. If I hadn't realized in time that the situation was serious I wouldn't be here writing this review. Not recommended. Dietary restrictions: Egg allergy problem in vegan dish; allergens not reported on the menu. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch

We have personally expressed our regret for what happened and, obviously, refunded the lunch to you and your companion, but we would like to firmly reiterate here too that the dish you ordered did NOT have eggs among the ingredients. We have no interest in writing that a dish is vegan if it isn't, given that ours is a vegetarian restaurant. Vegetarian, in fact, with a vegan offer (which does not necessarily exclude allergy implications). We proudly boast the definition of "MILK" and offer a large section of omelettes and omelettes, called "EGGS" on the menu. To a person like you, (severely) allergic from birth to "MILK" and "EGGS", who had come to us for lunch and made us aware of his condition, we would have pointed out the obvious, that is, the possibility that even dishes that do not include milk and/or eggs among the ingredients could have been unintentionally and occasionally contaminated by traces of allergens (such as milk and/or eggs, specifically) present in the kitchen. Not only did you not tell us about your serious allergies, but you didn't even ask to read the allergen register which, as we specify on the menu (by law), is freely available for consultation. There you would have read about the possible presence of traces of allergens from contamination (including milk and eggs) in our preparations. Furthermore, contrary to what you say, we remember that when you returned to report the incident to us you did NOT have any report with you. So much so that, when you offered to come back the following day to bring it to us, we told you that it wouldn't be necessary because we would have no reason not to believe you. We have therefore listed for you in detail and in total transparency all the ingredients of the dish you ordered, highlighting the allergens present (peanuts, in fact). And, if you had asked us, we would not have been able to let you access the kitchen (which is still visible) because it is not permitted by HACCP regulations. We consider your accusations to be defamatory and the use of some words you used in this review to be extremely serious. We work seriously, in total transparency, in compliance with the rules and ethics of our profession. You did not tell us about your food allergies and you did not use any precautions or tools available to avoid what happened, starting from venturing into a dairy for lunch knowing that you were seriously allergic to milk.More
