You never stop learning. I am a big frequenter of bars, and for twenty years they have also been places where I work, since I often find myself walking around with my laptop waiting for this or that meeting, appointment or similar. I enter the bar, sit at the table, order an American coffee. In the meantime I open my laptop and start writing some emails. Then I order a second American coffee. I drink it. At a certain point the owner – I presume – stands in front of my table and glares at me. Since it often happened to me that someone asked me what job I do or other jokes, I smiled and said: "Tell me." He replied: "Is it an office?". I looked around to see if there were people waiting to sit – I'm very careful about this and sometimes writing gets distracted – but the tables next to me were empty. So I thought he was joking, that it was a joke. But I still had a doubt, "I didn't understand, sorry." “Is this an office?” At that point I realized he wasn't joking and given his attitude I felt the need to justify myself: "I ordered two Americans and..." I was about to say that there was no one there, that I was waiting for another person and that we would have ordered other. “All you had to do was ask nicely,” he tells me. So to open a laptop and write on a bar table with no customers waiting, you have to ask. What if I opened a book? A newspaper? What if I had been there to chat? Or staring into space? I get up, collect my things, we exchange two more sentences but he remains in his position: "It was enough to ask". I go to the cashier and say "I'm paying for two American coffees and the inconvenience I caused you by sitting at the table" I expected a minimum of backtracking, a smile, an apology. Instead the lady at the checkout tells me: "Six euros is fine." I pay and leave. A few days later, I write this review while sitting in another bar, at a table. I have my laptop open, there is also wi-fi in the bar. I ordered an American coffee and no one here dreams of treating a customer like that. Price per person: €1–10 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
