Yesterday we were looking forward to brunch at the EssTisch/ Kempinski Hotel. Unfortunately we can only give 2 stars because the visit was a failure apart from the ambience and the service. The description of the brunch reads wonderfully on the website, so we had expectations, also because of the price. For over 100 euros for adults/children over 5 years of age, you can expect a lot. As announced, there was a champagne reception... and you have to wait a while until the doors to the restaurant open, in the meantime you can still enjoy the sun on the terrace. We were able to choose our place - there weren't that many guests; The service was courteous, took our drink order and also offered wine (included in the price). Quite attractive for guests who drink wine. Then we went to the buffet and there was a really clearly laid out buffet. At the warm counter you could get roast beef as well as corn-fed chicken and salmon. Plus gnocchi, spaetzle, risotto and rice and vegetables. The roast beef was good. The salmon was ok with a tendency to be well done. There was also a kind of osso buco, which was also relatively tasteless including the sauce. The side dishes were too dry and quite hard (Spätzle), too stuck to the bottom of the pan and baked together (Gnocchi), rice was just rice and the risotto was too sticky. The vegetables are ok. But nothing more. No special seasoning. Both of our chicken breasts, each from different chickens, were both undercooked. We then let them go back. Chicken must be done. The salad buffet was average. Other starters standard. The dessert buffet was ok. We were present with two children, for whom child care was offered in a separate room. The young lady did a very good job, the kids found her really nice and likeable. What surprised us, however, was that there was absolutely nothing offered for children at the buffet. If you offer childcare and charge €50 for children aged 6 and over, then I would expect a corresponding offer, because children often like to eat schnitzel, sausages, pizza, pasta or fries. At least one of these dishes could have been presented. Ice cream would have been nice too. That wouldn't be financially prohibitively expensive. In any case, our grandchildren went home hungry. That was really a shame. All in all, the offering was far from the advertised gourmet buffet, which would have included fresh seafood. The service staff were very nice. The chef at the warm buffet was not visible for a long time around 2:45 p.m. and the gnocchi were no longer refilled. We would have liked a lot more choice, for example a fillet pot with mushrooms, veal schnitzel or a nice roast including a really good sauce. The lady at the piano was very nice and created a great atmosphere. What we don't think is good for a 5-star hotel and the associated restaurant is that dogs can be brought there. Large dogs/dogs in general do not belong at the table there. We will no longer take advantage of this offer for brunch. Addendum to the comment: Of course, that turned out unfortunate - we should have been more demanding and more researching, but in a 5-star hotel we expected that the guests would be taken into account and that's not our style. There weren't any at the time of our visit There were other children present, so I would have expected to find out from the service staff or the cook that it was possible to order something for the two boys. How are we supposed to know that? Just be attentive and see that a guest, in our case the children, has nothing on their plate. And at the beginning of the visit, inform guests with children about the options and the guests would have left more satisfied. That makes the small but important difference in a 5-star hotel. Your grandchildren could have ordered anything at any time if they didn't like the food offered. Our kitchen team prepares everything for the little ones if we don't prepare a buffet due to the small number of children. Of course there would have been ice cream too. Went to Gravenbruch again last weekend. The Hotel Kempinski has the Restaurant Esstisch. It's still asparagus season, so I had to grab it. Super tasty and large portion. As always, the service is very courteous and attentive. Wine recommendation was excellent. Always happy. See you next time.
