I was invited to tea at the Palm Court of the Ritz-Carlton in Montreal. The reputation of the brand no longer needs to be established, nor that of the chef Claude Guérin. I was excited, but ironically, I never believed that this concept was for someone like me. The welcome was friendly. I was offered support and help to climb the stairs (walker) and I was offered cloakroom service to drop off my coat. The lady at reception even took the time to help me sit down by pulling out the chair. While waiting for the other guests, I was offered a sparkling water. The hostess then came to introduce herself when all the guests arrived. Smiling, she took the time to explain the concept, the process and she detailed the nuances between the different teas presented on the menu given to us. Necessary attention to any food intolerances and allergies makes us feel very safe and without any feeling of discomfort. The table is decorated in a simple, almost refined way. We quickly understand why when the platters are placed on the table, because the stars are definitely these delicate bites! Flavors are defined as finesse, balance and good taste (in every sense of the word). Here, nothing is left to chance. Each fang is an ecstasy in the mouth. The skill of geniuses in the kitchen is a pure revelation! I no longer wanted to discuss at the table, except about what was in front of us. Although the company I had did not have the same respect for the culinary art of the Ritz-Carlton, I had the great pleasure of living this unique experience. My only desire was to leave the table to chat with those who had given me this precious “gift”, whether the people in the kitchen, the chef or anyone involved in ensuring that this tea time went smoothly. Thanks to them, I was able to discover new flavors, without heaviness, without artifice and I was able to get out of my comfort zone. What a team! What a moment! I am still moved by so much gustatory and visual beauty. I always thought I didn't belong in a place as grandiose as the Ritz-Carlton and the Palm Court, but when I sat down with people who didn't grasp the magnitude behind each mouthful and didn't not even trying to savor the moment, my perceptions changed. The goosebumps I had while trying to memorize the flavors cannot be discussed and I felt understood by this culinary universe that I would so much like to discover more. For me, this tea time is an event that marks an important moment. The one that opened me up to a new experience. Since then, I have only thought of this future occasion when I could perhaps sit down at Maison Boulud, without pretension, with naivety perhaps, but above all with wonder! Wheelchair accessibility: Places are available on the same level. Access for people with reduced mobility is set aside. An employee showed me the location while escorting me there.
