We recently spent several days here for a wedding celebration and what festival it was! The setting was the stuff of fairytales with rambling gardens, vineyards, and apple orchards, overlooked by towering mountains, yet only a short walk into Merano town. Our room was huge, and light and airy. The breakfasts were lovely, the food in the bistro was up with the best we had during our stay in Italy. But it was the infinite patience, kindness and consummate hospitality of our host, Christina which made our stay. She couldn’t have done enough for us. During the wedding celebration she was there from dawn to past 3am in the morning, ensuring everything went smoothly and it did. It was such a beautiful wedding with so many different spaces - all beautiful - for each aspect of the celebration, from aperitivo to the feast, to dancing and cutting of the cake. And then there was the food! The catering was sublime, every dish was faultless. A pretty amazing feat with so many courses over so many hours. A most memorable time in all our lives, made all the more amazing by the beautiful setting and the skill, generosity and professionalism of Christina and her hospitality team. Service: 5

This is not a review of the hotel . . . I did not stay here. I did come for dinner, however, at their restaurant in the garden a couple of weeks ago (end of June). My review is going to be all over the place, so let me try a list: Staff - lovely. Friendly & helpful, but one.of our waiters seemed a little confused at times. However, nothing that interfered wjtb the enjoyment of our meal. Food - average, overall. My pasta dish was not impressive, but the guanciale was delicious. Compared to other restaurants we eat at during this trip, the dishes get about 3.5 stars. Location - gorgeous. The grounds of Castel Pienzau are beautiful. We ate on the slate patio in the garden and it felt magical. Except for the mosquitos. The waitress sat us & explained that she'd be bringing bug spray for us as they have a mosquito issue this time.of the year. By the time she returned with the spray, my legs were on fire with mosquito bites. I am assuming if you visit during a different season you will not encounter this problem, but it definitely affected my experience. Service: 4

The Schloss Castel Pienzenau was one of the nicest places I have stayed in Italy. I really loved staying in the tower room of this majestic castle. Idyllic gardens surround it, with nesting birds, a pond, apple orchards, and vineyards for a nearby winery. Its neighbor is another castle with the Sisi's Walk Gardens leading into town. The food is excellent, and meals are like a lovely dinner party with interesting people. The staff is generous and welcoming. The tower room has a very beautiful view. Perfect for nature lovers, bird watchers, writers, hikers, or people just needing relaxation. Someday I'd like to come back and write a novel here. I felt like a character of a novel staying here.
