The place is truly an enchanting trip back in time. Precisely for this reason it is a mortal sin that it is managed incorrectly: the owner welcomes the customer very kindly but makes him feel deceived from the moment he enters. We (two people) were immediately put at ease and we were made to choose the wine, strictly a house bottle. There is no menu so the owner brought us "what the convent offers", as he said several times (specifically a small piece of cheese, a tiny crouton with chard, 4 thin slices of industrial cold cuts and a bit of polenta on a paper plate). Once we finished our bottle of Lacrima (bulk wine bottled by the winery itself), we went to pay and the girl at the entrance asked us for €70 (SEVENTY EUROS!). I write "incorrect" but I'll leave it to you to imagine what I actually mean. Price per person: €30–40 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4

Antiche Cantine del Porticello is a charming cantina on the very fringe of the Old Town and a great stopping place for tasting some of the area's best wines. Above the entry doorway there's a sign that reads "Enoteca del porticello dal 1605", meaning, port wine cellar since 1605. Although not much to look at from the outside, it really is a charming, warm and intimate wine cellar and has an amazing medieval internal building structure and ambience. It has a musty smell which gives it that added air of authenticity. The red, white and sparkling wines on offer are great and priced to give good value. The staff and the owner are also excellent, very friendly and provide great service. We enjoyed the experience. Highly recommended.
