Wonderful place on the Earth. Great view, great restaurant, nice personnel. Why four stars? Because of not working WiFi. But one day without internet is possible. We’ ll be back.

We walked down to the Hotel-Restaurant Zummethof from our holiday accommodation nearby one evening recently. We arrived at the restaurant and were warmly greeted by the Bulgarian waiter who showed us to a table next to the large picture windows with night time views down to the Mosel river and the villages of Leiwen and Trittenheim. The menu was extensive and included various choices from their "Bavarian week". I went for the Oktoberfest beer to start with and then ordered the pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe) with fried potatoes and red cabbage. I asked for it to cooked with a crispy skin which was probably not so clever in hindsight because my knuckle was particularly well cooked... The others in our party also went for other pork dishes with seasonal vegetables and fried potatoes. Actually each of us asked for a special variation of side dishes not indicated on the menu but that wasn't a problem. Of course, being in Mosel country we had to try the white wine. We were offered wines from the Weingut Georghof based just a stone's throw away from the restaurant. We had both the dry and sweet Riesling QBA wines which were so good that we got the details on where to go to buy more bottles to take home with us. As is often the case, this almost spontaneous choice for evening dinner was a huge success. Next time we should come during daylight hours to maximise the splendor of the views into the Mosel valley.
