Returning to the country from sunny Dalmatia, lunchtime found us near Varazdin. Encouraged by the great reviews, we went for dinner to the Zlatne Gorice restaurant. After the fantastic food we were served in Dalmatia, we had very high expectations and Zlatne Gorice met our expectations in every respect. The restaurant is located among fields of grapes, surrounded by blooming herbs and lavender. Behind the main building there is a huge shaded terrace with a phenomenal panorama, next to it there is a mini maze for children, a playground, swings and plenty of deckchairs. We made ourselves comfortable on the terrace, placed our order and waited for the dishes to be served. After a short wait, we got our food and I honestly admit that I am a bit lost for words to praise the taste of the food. Delicious vegetable broth with noodles - my three-year-old ate almost the entire large portion. The venison goulash that our other two children got was great - the sauce was thick and aromatic, the meat melted in your mouth, the gnocchi was cooked to perfection. The dish was so good that the kids ate all the extra bread, soaking it in the goulash. Rump steak with cheese and ham, with a half-boiled egg, with salad and baked potatoes - a very good dish, perfectly seasoned, the meat itself could have been baked a minute shorter because it was a bit harder than it should be, but the overall dish was very good. I will remember the sea bream fillets with baked potatoes and salad for a long time - the meat was perfectly seasoned and, most importantly, the fish melted in your mouth, the dish was simply delicious. My wife ordered the menu of the day, which included a small drink, a cold starter in the form of rice salad, a main course - chicken fillet baked with tomatoes and basil, and breaded, fried zucchini, followed by an ice cream dessert. There was a bit too much vinegar in the salad for our taste and that is our only reservation about this set. We also added tiramisu and pannacotta - both delicious desserts. The whole was complemented by cold drinks, coffee and a glass of very tasty wine. To sum up - overall, this is the best restaurant we have visited in Croatia, and maybe the best we have ever been to. Each individual dish may not have been outstanding and I have certainly eaten better goulash or better fish somewhere, but overall it is a complete meal because all the dishes, without exception, are of a very high standard. When planning a trip through Croatia, it is worth stopping in this beautiful place and spending some time here, not only eating. One of the best restaurants I've visited. Everything is top notch. The food is delicious, the waiters are extremely approachable, the terrace and yard are beautifully decorated.
