Wonderful! Place2be Cafe took over from Yet’s Cafe a little less than a year ago. This is an Indian cafe with lunch food like sandwiches and samosa and occasionally specials like chana and roti or idli vada, and chai, but they still have a small bubble tea menu. I tried the paneer masala sandwich, which is apparently the most recommended veg item, and a ginger chai. The presentation of the sandwich was very nice, topped with sev and with some ketchup for dipping on the side. It had melted cheese in addition to the paneer, so this is definitely one for cheese fans. Anyway, it was delicious - not really spicy, but with the intense masala flavour that I love and some green chutney to add some brightness. The chai was also great. I prefer mine without sugar so I was glad that they made it unsweetened and checked if I wanted sugar added. Together this was only about $10, making it one of the most affordable meals I've gotten downtown! As lovely as the food was, it was equally nice to talk with the owner! We had a great conversation and I learned more about the cafe and his family. They seem like very nice people. I admire their goal of promoting their cafe through word of mouth rather than investing in social media campaigns... I would recommend giving them a try!
