I've been here before for the Sunday brunch. The first time we made reservations for a window seat one day before. When we got there, they couldn't guarantee it and said they where all spoken for, "first come first serve ", so we settled for the bar table over looking the other tables. The food was good except the cold table, some of the items didn't taste too fresh (oysters and salmon) and the desert table wasn't that great. We wanted to try again for the second time and made reservations a day before and again requested a window seat. When we got there, they automatically sat us on the bar tables again, the place was still pretty empty. We told the host that we made reservations for the window seat, she replied, " can't guarantee, first come first serve" Clearly there was at least 4 tables that where empty and they still didn't want to accommodate. The host told us that you almost have to reserve weeks or even months in advance to guarantee a window seat... this not a high end restaurant by any means!!! It sounded too far fetch Instead they sat us in the upper corner. We took it because we where hungry. Three of the tables stayed empty for at least almost an hour. This time around the food was not that good cause it didn't taste fresh. The dessert table wasn't being replenished. The only good experience was our server, she was nothing but outstanding I will not recommend this place to anyone or come back For the price of the branch, the food quality could be better. The host really left a bad taste in our experience and never made any attempt to make good on our visit

Amazing place and the food quality was amazing!!! The reviews here made me sceptical, but I'm glad I came here. I'll be back. We had a party of forty and the service was good. Water on the table, orange juice and coffee refilled. I didn't ever feel like I had to call on someone. For a large group, great service! It's hard to get good service with such a large group. I'm impressed! Very clean stations. Food was presented beautifully, the bacon was crisp and not swimming in oil. It's still oily but not in a bath of oil. Eggs Benedict were beautiful. Creamy egg ran over the soft bread. I'm surprised the bread was pretty good. Loaves of bread available and small round ones. Smoked salmon tasted good with cream cheese. I loved the prime rib. Medium. Cooked very well, like a steakhouse. With mustard and horseradish. It was so tender! I love the view and the food. I had a great experience.

The Water Street Cooker was once the place you came for high-end whitebread food - to have swordfish or prime rib or a fancy brunch - stuff you could, in theory, make at home with the distinct risk, however, of spending a lot of money and time to potentially overlook or under deliver. And in the old days, when your downtown dining options were Amici's (high-priced ethnic), Pat and Mario's (high-priced casual), The Poacher (high-end pub), The Dickens (low-end pub), and the Village Square family resto that used to close early in the winter, the Water Street Cooker had a niche all to itself. The problem with any niche is that it can narrow. Delivering standard mangiacake fare in a high-end way with good service and reasonable prices is hard. Now it is harder thanks to the boom in downtown Burlington restaurants. And with Spencer's just down the street, the Water Street Cooker doesn't even have a niche to itself anymore. Our meals here have been passable. It's easy to overcook whitefish and eggs and rib and hard to overcook a steak and chicken and understandable that pre-made mash can get glutoney so one can make an exception for those results. But these were meals I would expect from a sit down pub yet still having portions and prices I would expect from a three course restaurant. The hosts are kids just out of high school and the service is accordingly amateur. You have to get staff's attention even in an empty resto. The beers on offer are decidedly "beer tent". The place is looking worn, it is not welcoming, and almost dark to the point of dank. The Water Street Cooker, in its heyday, was a credit to Burlington. Now it's just another over-priced restaurant full of food I have made at home to almost as good results.
