This was the first place we visited on arriving at Wengen from Luzern. We wanted coffee and food. The goulash soup was magnificent, coffee was lovely and the owner/server was very friendly. It really set the tone for our visit which was exceptional. Absolutely loved this place and Wengen with all the region has to offer. Thanks for a wonderful meal and start to our visit to Wengen. We got lunch (or something resembling lunch) here on the very first day we arrived in Switzerland. After a 3-hour train ride (with four stops) from Zurich to Wengen, we were famished but unfortunately, it was late enough in the day that few places were open for lunch. Which is how we found ourselves at Restaurant Waldschluecht around 2:30 p.m. on an unusually cold afternoon in September 2024. Between my wife and I, we each ordered a bowl of their tomato soup. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich as well. Although I now see some reviewers noting that their soups likely came from a can as opposed to being freshly prepared, my wife and I both found the soup to be nice and, importantly for me, served piping hot. The ham and cheese toast I had was extremely plain but something that helped quench my hunger at the moment. We also found the gentleman and lady serving us to be attentive to our needs in spite of the restaurant being quite busy. The one issue I had which made me initially want to leave the restaurant once we sat down was the limited number of options. As people who do not have beef, the goulash soup was off-limits for us and besides the tomato soup and ham and cheese toast, there was little on the menu that we could have ordered that wasn't dessert (apple strudel for instance). In the end, I think I am offering the rating I am (4-stars) because of the convenience of the place - located close to the train station, the relatively modest prices, and the attentive service we received there.
