Villa Royal is an exceptional place. We had a 2 bedroom apartment (number 7), which was great. The service was great, breakfast was also superb. The communication with the owner was We will come back for sure!

We booked and fully paid for a two bedroom apartment in January via booking.com. On the day before we arrived, while staying on Krk, we received a message from Villa Royal at 12 o'clock saying the 2 bed room was no longer available. We were offered a studio room, for the same price, but with half board. You have 30 min to accept this offer, or your booking is cancelled! As there was no other accommodation available on Rab, and we had things booked, we had little choice but to accept, though we refused the half board and got some money returned. The outdoor spaces of the hotel are nice, with a nice pool area. The room was cramped for three, the Aircon was weak, many elements were worn or badly fitted. It was definitely not a 4 star room. The staff are friendly, though we didn't feel much like engaging after the way things started off (we called the day they said the room was not available, but no one spoke English, though some did when we arrived). Breakfast was a very odd event, maybe just a cultural thing. Things are brought out to you table when you sit down, and then you kind of guess what they might be able to serve you. Because of the way we were treated, (I have never had a room cancelled like this), it understandably put everyone in a bad mood (a autistic child who doesn't deal with change doesn't help). In reality, we would not have booked here in January, as we didn't want to all share a cramped room. This leaves you feeling conned, and we never received an apology or explanation from the property. To make things worse, the room we did book still seemed to be available on booking through our, go figure. A very average hotel/villa, possibly the most disappointing one I have had in Croatia. We have stayed in loads, and found them generally excellent, this one was not, and I would struggle to recommend it.
