Sad to see them go.  They're under renovations as a new restaurant and management.  Sad that bit by bit the historical Chinese diners that spotted the Canadian map are fading away.  Where else can one get wonton soup and sausages and eggs for breakfast or fried rice with eggs Benedict?  One by one they fade away.  Will someone take up the torch and showcase these unique dining places with affordable food ?  Probably not. Rents too high and Chinese food is evolving into being made from imported bags of Chinese sauces like the hotpot restaurants that are now scattering the lower mainland landscape.  Chinese restaurant syndrome is at an all time high where your old fashioned favorite food joint that served  Salisbury steak and mashed potatoes and gravy are no more.  I am saddened as another piece of our heritage is crumbling to dust and blowing off into the sunset.

This is an old hole-in-the-wall diner located on the corner of 49th and Victoria. They serve up a menu of breakfast fare, as well as lunch items and Chinese food as well. I had their Breakfast B, which consists of 2 eggs, a choice of sausage, ham or bacon, and a choice of toast or pancakes; I had sausage and pancakes. The dish was nothing to write home about, but fairly good; the price was was very cheap: you can probably have a meal for $10, tips included. This is certainly not the best diner in terms of food and service, but for affordability, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.

Breakfast B ($7.50):
3/5
This comes with 2 eggs, your choice of toast or 3 pancakes, and sausage, ham, or bacon; I had the pancakes and sausages. The eggs were a little strange in that they have a circular disk shape; I did find them to be underseasoned. The sausages were standard breakfast sausages. The pancakes were a bit dry and tough, but still tasty. This isn't anything special, but it's still fairly good.

Summary:
Food: 3/5
Price: 5/5
Service: 3/5

Victoria is the business. Cash only and offers mafia seating in the back. Similar to a place Ray Liotta leaves a twenty dollar tip on $5 bill, and the waitresses deserve it. They are a team of the most elite old Asian ladies in East Van running the entire front end of the operation. Their patty melts are the best in Vancouver (add grilled onions!) and crafted by a faceless chef in the back. I say faceless because I've been to Victoria restaurant many times and have never caught even a glimpse of the chef. Although I am lead to believe he's an old Asian man husband to one of the waitresses, I am not completely sure. Which is why I like to imagine they have a 'Ratatouille'-esk vibe happening in the kitchen. Run by culinary gifted animals that were never given a fair chance by the big guns. I've only had great experiences here. Though there has been a great mystery behind those swinging doors, I would recommend it again and again for lunch or breakfast :)
