We were there almost 14 days ago. We were told by other guests how good it was, especially the pancakes. We ordered a carpaccio (I mean 17 euros), a steak (35 euros), a mixed salad (6.50 euros), 2 light beers, 1 apple juice spritzer and a pancake (not paid for) for dessert, a total of just under 72 euros. The service employee was very committed and nice. The food was a solid 3 out of 5. Nothing more, nothing less. The steak was supposed to be medium, but came as medium rare, and the first beer was poured a good 2cm too little. The salad had 4 slices of cucumber, 1 slice of tomato, grated carrot and the rest of leafy greens. The bread with the carpaccio was more like cake... the taste was ok. The pancake should come with ice cream and cream and chocolate inside. Ok, ordered. I cut a piece, put it on the fork and put it in my mouth, then immediately took it out again because it was full of nuts. Specially requested, very uncool with allergies. For comparison, we were in a very well-known harbor restaurant in Rovinj, similar food only with red wine and water twice... It only cost 4 euros more. No comparison. I don't recommend it, not because it's bad, but because for the price you can eat much better food with better quality. We ate here for the second time on our vacation. The service was very helpful and friendly. If we had questions, the cell phone was used to help us if we couldn't get any further with the language. The pizzas we had were good, only the margarita pizza was actually a bit "mushy". Prices have been a bit too high since the introduction of the euro. I ate there 7 evenings with my wife and son in August... and can only say TOP! The people who work there are extremely friendly, courteous, attentive and very friendly with children (which is very important to me personally)...my son looked forward to visiting Vala every evening because he felt comfortable and welcome there !! The food was always excellent, and to be honest.....the prices are below cheap for me.....because the quality and the size of the portions were perfect.....in Austria you'll bleed for something like that, and that without a view of the sea! We'll most likely come back to BU next year and hope that Vala will delight us again!
