Our continuing adventures trying different cuisines, found us family of four being ushered through the doors of Turca Breakfast House one weekend morning. We were promptly given menus by polite and smiling Turkish ladies in Muslim headscarves. To start our exotic breakfast, we were given a thermos of Turkish tea but several in my group ordered Turkish coffee in addition. The first sip of tea impressed us with a very likeable floral (?) flavor. Perhaps trailing the Vietnamese pandan tea just by a hairline. And the temperature is just perfect. Alternating with it, we tried Turkish coffee for the first time, in petit ornate cups, and we were similarly enamored. The coffee flavor and aroma with a thick nongritty solids at the bottom, stood out. The crema was velvety. And it was not bitter! For the breakfast itself, we ordered the classic Turkish breakfast consisting of freshly baked slices of bread and bagels sprinkled with sesame, sausage (slices) omelette, boiled egg, (and in separate platters of) green and dark olives, cucumbers and tomatoes, dried apricots with walnuts and chickpeas, cheeses and butter and sweet bread spreads to include rose jam and honey with a sliver of butter. Very notable is the distinct floral taste of the jam. The honey is light and not so viscous. They were superb on the nicely baked bread and bagel with the former sans the palate- and gum-piercing hard crusts of some baked versions we have tried. The olives' saltiness was just right; there is a hint of crunchiness in the green ones but the dark olives were so tender as to almost melt in the mouth after the first bites. Every last morsel of food was finished off the serving boards. Mukemmel yemek! We will try other Turkish delicacies for sure.
