This place is different. I didn't really even know what Steam Punk style is before stopping in at The Sandwich Project. The theme has nothing to do with the food, at not that I noticed. It's just a way of decorating the café, which is kind of cool, and in their choice of music, for lack of a better word. The sound blasting out of the speakers resembles heavy metal. It's not so loud that you can't have a conversation, but it's loud enough to make you wonder if you just stepped into a youth nightclub. Now on to the good stuff - the food. I ordered a small Reuben Sandwich and it was both delicious and the right size for a normal lunch. If you are in a physically demanding job or spent last night assaulting a guitar in an effort to play heavy metal or steam punk "music" you might prefer the large sandwich. Ordering can be confusing but the staff behind the counter were cheerful and helpfull. The problem is that they have one of those constantly changing electronic menus on the wall so you either have to stand there until you see something you like, or just order a daily special or design your own. If you don't like strong flavours or certain condiments it might be wise to "design your own" sandwich. My wife is not big on mustard but her pastrami sandwich came with lots of it. I on the other hand love strong flavours and especially strong mustard so I really enjoyed my Reuben. In fact I think that I'll return some day and I'll order another Reuben because I never get tired of Reuben sandwiches. They do offer some meatless sandwiches for vegetarians so it seems that steam punks can be quite accommodating. There's only three tables but most people seem to order takeout. I don't think that they even have reusable plates. There's one unisex washroom. So there you have it. This is not a place to take your aging mother but if you like well made sandwiches with bold flavours this may be your café. I certainly enjoyed it.
