Trinity St. Paul's United Church est un excellent complément à l'expérience de ce confectionary restaurant. Dans Sweet Fantasies, les invités peuvent goûter un gelato cuit à la perfection. Un service beau est toujours un plaisir.

I would go here again, to try the raspberry gelato. Unfortunately, the Mapletons brand of ice cream I got, lacked considerable flavour. I got a double scoop; one ginger, the other chai. They were the same colour essentially, which confused me initially and made my mind ask the question of, "are these the same ice cream flavours?" Seeing as Chai to me has some spiciness to it, I thought Ginger would be a good compliment flavour. My tastebuds later answered my earlier question. But they were the least bit amused. There was no pow, no zing, no boom. Just a collection of blandness melting down into the delicious waffle cone I had smartly chosen. The price it was, was not particularly pleasing to me. I was very excited to go here and experience Sweet Fantasies for the first time, and additionally excited to spend the first bit of a cheque I had been waiting on. I was overwhelmed with disappointment. It cost about $7 for what I got. I treated my mom also for her double scooped treat and the total amounted to just over $16 with tax, which is a lot for an experience that did not live up to my expectations. Sixteen bucks could buy me two pints of B&J ice cream and a package of ice cream cones. And depending on how rationing goes, I could basically have 8 different servings of ice cream if I went with that option. Instead my mom too felt as though the flavors she got were virtually tasteless (Roasted Dandelion Root and Ginger). They were that  same hue of beige as well and to top it off she got some black stuff at the very bottom of her cone. Must have been burnt cone in my opinion. However you can never be too sure with bugs crawling up and making a nest in the little tiny crevices of pieces of food we love to eat. If that were the case, it would be speak volumes to how things are stored. Thankfully, it was not, yet burnt flour has a flavour that over takes and is still an issue, as important as chomping down on some extra unwanted protein. All in all here are the numbers for all you number crunchers : Ice cream flavours: 1/5 I would not recommend ANY of the Mapletons Service: 2/5 Price: 1/5 Location: 4/5 (pretty nice when bloor is not busy) Happy ice creaming!

Overall, the ice cream was pretty good - but I've had better. I had a double scoop in a waffle cone (chocolate brownie, and banana). The waffle cone was definitely a highlight. Very tasty. However, the ice creams were kind of basic. Flavours were good but the ice cream was not as creamy as some other places nearby. As well, it was a little expensive for what you get. The second scoop was pretty small compared to the first scoop.

It was hot this past Friday while I was walking around in the Bloor-Spadina area, so I stopped for an ice cream cone at Sweet Fantasies, a place that I have passed often but don't think I have ever stopped in before. There isn't any actual place to 'stop in' as it is only a walk-up window, but there are a few tables out front. They have at least a dozen flavours of regular ice cream, as well as a few organic choices, and 3 kinds of gelato. When I walked-up, I noticed they also have floats as well as sundaes and milkshakes, so my ice cream cone ended up being a black cherry root beer float. To be honest, I find that ice cream is becoming one of the 'gentrified' foods, where you are often paying more for a fancy name or theme but getting pretty much the same as before. However, I was very satisfied with Sweet Fantasies. My float was fairly large and the ice cream was very good, so not bad for $5, with their cones priced at $3 and up, cash only. Overall, a pretty good option for a summer treat in the Annex, and I'm sure that I'll drop by again.
