I recently visited Gin Sushi with my husband on a weeknight. When I called ahead, the waitress/hostess made it sound like the restaurant was busy. However, upon arrival, we were the only table there, which in hindsight should have raised some suspicions. The experience was disappointing, to say the least. While some of the fish was fresh, the "omakase" menu lacked any thought or care. The appetizer we were served featured a tomato that was claimed to be a cherry tomato from Japan—an assertion that seemed dubious at best—and the soba noodle beneath it was clumped together. The miso soup was equally underwhelming. Served after the appetizer, it was nothing special, despite the attempt to elevate it with a couple of pieces of fish. One of the biggest disappointments was that all the omakase sushi was pre-cut. Traditionally, omakase involves the chef cutting the fish fresh, but that was not the case here. When we asked if we could add scallops a-la-carte, the waitress informed us that they were not in season and that they only had frozen scallops available. This response was quite baffling. Overall, the meal lacked the thoughtfulness and artistry one would expect from an omakase restaurant. The effort put into the dishes was minimal, and it showed. I cannot recommend Gin Sushi based on this experience. Service: Dine in Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

My best friend and I came here, wanting to have an experience. Since it might be a long time, that we might not see each other again. Sushi Gin; did not disappoint, whatsoever. The hostess was kind and courteous, my friend I came to the plaza pretty late, and most of the patrons were on their way out. So we weren't sure they'd serve us, at that time and without a reservation as well, on a saturday evening. As we passed through the sliding doors, We were met with a few patrons and the outstanding staff. The atmosphere; paired with the minimal nihongo architecture, classical music, and sliding doors - transports you to a far away place. There were 3 women to the far left, a couple to left, and another couple to the right; and we sat right in the middle of the restaurant across the chef. The perfect spot in the restaurant. We had omakase, and each and every item that was brought to Us, was displayed in a beautifully ornate traditional lacquered ware. Each dish served came in front of us, with a sophisticated display of curated flavors, textures, and colors. As the chef intimately prepared our dishes in front of Us. The Chef humbly spoke eloquently of the food; that he was preparing with his sous-chef, the culmination of his life experience, and how the ingredients were sourced and used. We both had a few nest yellow and white beers; along with our expertly crafted dishes. A complex culinary journey; this was truly a delightful experience, we would never forget. From the beginning to the end. Sushi Gin is a truly well orchestrated symphony of flavors. We will never forget. I only Wish they'd music by Ryuichi Sakamoto in the background. Mahalo... Parking: This plaza gets pretty busy at times, unless your at the plaza late.
