Bring your own scale to verify the weight. Been buying spot prawns at Ladner in previous years before coming over to Steveston. I pre-ordered 4 lbs from them, picked it up on the docks and it felt light, but I didn't question it. When I got home, I measured using my own scale, and it ended up being about 3.2 lbs or 1.45 kg. Spot prawns were fine, but not the cheapest around. With how much we're paying for them compared to the past years, please verify the weights! I'll be bringing my own scale next time to the docks.

I got a few pounds of live fresh spot prawns today down at the Steveston’s wharf at the going rate $25/lb. they are so sweet and delicious no matter how I prepared them (sashimi, fried heads, steamed), about a quarter of the bag were the smaller size. Great friendly service and they accept credit card, which is a plus compared to their rivals.

This seafood market has the highest quality of wild fishes I ever bought. All of them specially their salmon, albacore tuna, lingcod and rock fish I usually bought here. Fish cutting to desired sizes and types is free. I learned why their fishes are great. It’s cleaned up flashed frozen right away after caught in the ocean & maintained them frozen until it reach this Seafood Market. Buying at the Fisherman’s Warf fishing boats just next to this market, I have issue sometimes. I went there late afternoon & saw the fisherman (seller) putting back to their freezer the left over fishes that were outside the freezer to be sold. It’s a big no to me. All my fish, once it got out of freezer thawed, I have to cook it. Never should I bring it back to freezer. Also, at Fisherman’s Wharf, they are not allowed to cut for you the fish.
