____ ! Underneath the egg was a complete cigarette, probably hand-rolled. I was stunned and almost felt sick. ____ Complaint about an incident in Mannheim Starks on February 2nd, 2025 ____ Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to tell you about an extremely unpleasant experience that I had today, February 2, 2025, at around 12:38 p.m. in the Mannheim Starks Café. Around lunchtime I ordered an American breakfast. My coffee was served straight away, but breakfast took at least 15-20 minutes to arrive, even though the cafe wasn't particularly busy - there were only six or seven tables occupied at most. When my breakfast finally came, none of it was hot - everything was either lukewarm or cold (sausage, bacon, egg, toast). I pointed this out to the waitress and she took my plate away and assured me that breakfast was freshly prepared. A short time later the plate was served to me again. I was aware that not everything was probably made from scratch, but at least I would have expected bacon and similar components to be freshly prepared. However, it seemed as if the food had simply been warmed up. Not wanting to ruin the moment, I decided not to think about it any further. But while I was eating the egg, I made a shocking discovery: underneath the egg was a complete cigarette, probably hand-rolled. I was stunned and almost felt sick. I immediately called the waitress and explained the situation to her. Her first reaction, however, was not an apology, but rather the question: “Was the cigarette there to begin with?” – as if I had put them there myself. Without further words, she took the plate and mumbled something incomprehensible before simply walking away. I couldn't even tell if she was apologizing because her speech was slurred. I guess she wanted to bring me a new breakfast, but I decided to leave the cafe immediately as the incident made me sick. Even though I had already paid for my meal, I returned after 15 minutes to ask for my money back. The waitress refunded me, but without a sincere apology. Maybe she apologized, but I couldn't understand it because of her slurred speech. In general, I am lenient when it comes to service errors. Mistakes can happen and I always treat staff with respect. However, such a serious incident should never occur. Additionally, I would have liked the waitress to have been more professional, polite and helpful. I see the main responsibility here as less with the waitress and more with the kitchen staff. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I will no longer visit your café. However, I expect an explanation and a thorough investigation into the incident. I find it incomprehensible how a cigarette could end up on my plate. Restaurant Starks in Mannheim is a solid choice if you're looking for a meal that won't break the bank, earning a respectable 3.5 out of 5 stars from my visit. I ordered the Putenschnitzel and a homemade iced tea. Both were good but didn't particularly stand out. The Putenschnitzel was well-cooked and satisfying, though it lacked that extra flair that could make it memorable. The homemade iced tea was refreshing and tasty, but again, nothing that blew me away. What really makes Starks worth a visit is the price. For the quality of food, it's incredibly affordable. You get a decent meal without having to spend a lot, which is always a plus in my book. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious, making it a comfortable spot to grab a quick bite or have a laid-back meal with friends. Service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall pleasant experience. In summary, Restaurant Starks is a great option if you're after good food at a great price. While the dishes might not be exceptional, the affordability and decent quality make it a worthwhile visit. A solid 3.5 out of 5 stars for being a budget-friendly dining spot in Mannheim.
