Enjoyed!!!!! On the advice of fellow foodie Ellen, we were introduced to the Australian Cuisine from Southern Cross in Heemstede. Delicious in the cozy courtyard, delicious fusion dishes passed by with flavors and structures that surprised our taste buds more than positively. After first being warmly welcomed by owner Natasja, we were offered an aperitif by Ellen from Brabant (how sweet is that) accompanied by a freshly baked sandwich with miso butter and Bitterballen. Bitterballen?? Yes bitterballen, made from Krokodil. Mmmmm... Magnificent! Then Chef Peter's Aussi Experience began in his Southern Cross Experience menu. Candied salmon trout with fresh Asian flavors of dashi and crispy seaweed Then...oh oh one of my favorites; Scallops with a sweet corn flan, crispy corn kernels, a vinegraitte made from an Australian wax plant (forgot the name) as a sour, nice combination with the sweet flan, the pan-fried scallops and yes, the spiciness of the green chilli mayo When: Grilled quail breast fillet with a kind of soy sauce with chili pepper where it became clear that Australia has many Southeast Asian influences, a compressed Choy sam with a glaze of I think turnip that had that fresh anise-like spiciness, grilled sweet potato and also some sauce from that . I expected that dessert would now make its entrance.... BUT NO!!! The main course was served And now we got: On the kamado perfectly grilled kangaroo steak with Indian influences in the form of a lasooni dal curry, sweet carrot, a crispy lentil ball that had a surprising fresh mint flavor and a vindaloo sauce.... Aiaiai The buukske was actually quite full, but I was still very curious about dessert. What surprise awaited us? It was a surprise! A summery raspberry pudding with peach sorbet and peach mousse, sponge cake and a crisp of puffed caramelized grains, I think barley. We were allowed to finish with friandes and tea, which would most likely be just as tasty, but we were already more than satisfied. Conclusion; A freakin awesome experience!
