I am a sucker for spicy tofu soups - that is literally my go-to dish. I order it almost 100% of the time at Korean restaurants. After some research, I came across South Castle Korean Restaurant where one of their specialty dishes is Sundubu-jjigae. Needless to say, I had to try! This is a very homey family-type restaurant with a lot of traditional dishes. Some of their menu items are in Korean is it could be a tad challenging to understand the menu and order for diners who don't know Korean. I ordered my dish in mild spicy, but it came out quite spicy (sweat rolling down my forehead) so they might had forgotten about my request. The dish had a lot of onions and vegetables but not a whole lot of seafood. I would prefer even more tofu too! The flavour was decent though I'm not sure if the soup base was made from seafood as I found the seafood flavour lacking. I love that they serve the dish with purple rice but was a tad disappointed that pickled radish was the only banchan. The dish was alright but I found it a tad lacking in depth of flavour. Service was good even though I just got take out. The server pointed out which table I could sit at while I waited; some restaurants will ask you to wait outside for take out. Overall, not a bad spot for some traditional Korean food. It is a comfy, warm atmosphere and don't expect anything fancy. I'm just a tad sad that I wasn't blown away with the dish I ordered.
