According to an invitation, I was deliberately an hour early in the parking lot of Schloss Berge. I knew the park and the outdoor area from childhood days. From the time of the classic "Sunday walks". I have to admit, my senses have changed. And the area is much larger and more beautiful than expected. I particularly like the pavilion with the beer garden and the old gate entrances. It was nice! And to my delight and surprise, they still exist, the Sunday strollers.... Just like before. Just different.... As I said, it was nice! Unfortunately, I do not share this experience with the gastronomy. Something doesn't match. We sat in a small group in a glass extension, the orangery. Quite a few cobwebs could be seen between the steel structure in the interior. Our server was very friendly, but had problems taking our orders. Can happen. No problem. After some waiting time, of the 8 dishes ordered, the venison platter for 2 people was delivered to the table on the classic warming plates. Unfortunately the dish was not complete. A side dish was added minutes later + a sauce and a type of game. Four more meals came a good 5-10 minutes later. The last dish, the calf's liver, took a few minutes longer. So the question came up for all of us: Who starts when? How rude is that then? Should we let the food get cold and rather wait? That was a strange start, especially since the invitation was for an 80th birthday. Everything that had to do with game looked really solid, delicious and rich. Deer, roe deer and wild boar, all with a separate sauce and generously portioned. I would be happy to recommend that. The dumplings were very suspiciously mass-produced. They didn't look right on the plate. According to the customer, twice-bacon-covered pork fillets with pepper sauce were heavily peppered and promoted a healthy complexion and restrained coughing. I had roasted chanterelles with smoked tofu and triplets on the plate. I asked myself beforehand how and with what to roast chanterelles? I had never eaten smoked tofu, or tofu at all, and was curious. Both mushrooms and tofu were incredibly greasy and fried in plenty of fat for a long time. I could neither perceive the lightness of the tofu nor the advertised smoky taste. It could have been anything that was on the plate and didn't have much to do with a vegan dish from the SCHLOSS BERGE kitchen. Overall, the food was unconvincing. I think sitting outside would have been a far better alternative for us. The seating looked really comfortable and the air was much better. The background noise and the narrowness of the tables in the orangery were not ideal either. O.K., each guest decides where to sit. When it comes to food and organization, however, the kitchen should do a good job. Maybe it wasn't the best day, things can't always go smoothly. But it wasn't good advertising for a longer break after the Sunday walk either. Service: 4 Location: 5
