When I walked in the two people there were flirting in the back and I had to yell hello 3 times to get their attention. The building was freezing cold, which did not make for an enjoyable experience and the food did not make up for it. The chorizo and cheese was mushy, a tiny bowl and came with 2 tortillas, not at all worth $13.50. The quasadillas were bland, the sauce was bland, everything needed at least a little salt, but bland is not what you expect from Mexican cuisine. Everything was terribly dissapointing, and took an hour to get my food which is bad considering I was the ONLY person there. I dont understand how people recommend this place. I want to like Salt & Pepper. It's local and and it's Mexican cuisine, which I enjoyed a'plenty on the coast where I grew up and now miss while living in Calgary. I want to like this restaurant - but every time I go, Salt & Pepper delivers a less than mediocre experience. Take tonight, for example: Sundays are a 'kids eat for $3' deal. We called ahead to make sure that we would receive this deal at the dinner hour, because honestly, eating out with children is already more of an adventure than a leisure activity as it is, so we didn't want to pay an arm and a leg to add to the experience. When we called, the staff assured us that yes, we would still receive the deal. However, fast forward to 6 o'clock, the bills arrived and kids' entrees were full price. When we pointed out the error, our server informed us that the $3 kids' meal deal ended at 3 p.m. We reiterated the conversation we had earlier that day with one of her co-workers, at which point she became increasingly rude and passive aggressive. In the end, our server begrudgingly fixed the pricing on the receipt, while repeatedly complaining that she would pay for the mistake and that we should have known that the deal ended at 3 p.m. When I asked if our server knew who had been working around the lunch hour to help her figure out who to talk to about the mistake, she shrugged off the question and insisted on blaming us. I understand being upset with people who didn't do their research and then expect others to pay for their own mistake. But we DID our research -- and it was the restaurant staff's error. Take it up with your co-worker, lady, not with the customers who did what we were told. The customer service at this place is brutal, with the exception of the hostess with the mullet -- she was great and so was her hair. Stay gold, Pony Boy.
