Wanted something sweet, quickly yelped and found this place. So many varieties and flavors, you'll find something you like, trust me! My favorite was the grapefruit sorbet gelato. This is the perfect location to pick up a tasty cone and check out the rest of byward market!

We had a craving for gelato after a dinner and we were not disappointed. Several members of our group were lactose intolerant and their selection of lactose-free options was pretty good, and there was a broad selection for others as well. The staff were friendly, they took debit, even for a small charge (Because who carries cash?), and it was bright, clean, and a place we enjoyed going! I'd say I'll definitely be back.

As pointed out by one of the reviewers, this store is inside a shop called "Sugar Mountain." Additionally, Apple Maps sends you to the wrong place. (I didn't try Google Maps.) But thanks to some friendly folks at a different store, I was able to finally locate it. The gelato is good, but I have had better. The gelato is made at a different location and brought to the store, instead of being made at the store like some other gelato places. My guess is that the freshness does matter--all other places where I have really liked the gelato are places that make their gelato fresh daily, often selling out of popular flavors before closing for the day. There is no place to sit inside. One of the days I went there it was really chilly outside and so I was just roaming around the store working on my gelato. They also do not have a restroom...had to run to a nearby McDonalds to use a restroom.
