Two populations of Commander squid exist based on large-scale circulations in the Bering and Okhotsk Seas. The range of B. septemdentatus is limited to the Sea of Japan, within which there is one population. All populations have similar features of spatial organization. At the heart of the range of each population there are extended spawning and feeding zones, which are more or less separated from each other. Feeding areas, in general, are confined to areas of increased production. The discussion of the results shows that the general direction of migration of these species coincides with cyclonic circulations in the seas they inhabit. More
