A star that cannot be seen My recent visit to Restaurant Piment, which proudly bears a Michelin star, was disappointing and left the reason for the award unclear. When we arrived at the almost empty restaurant, where only three of the ten tables were occupied, we did not receive a warm welcome. Instead, we were immediately offered a champagne aperitif without being given the opportunity to choose a wine - there was no wine list at all. The food was served rather indifferently. Descriptions of the dishes were rattled off monotonously, leaving little room for a culinary adventure. Surprisingly, there was no recommendation of suitable wines for the dishes. I therefore had to drink water with my duck, as no appropriate wine was suggested or refilled. The dessert service was also limited; Even a simple espresso couldn't be ordered. Interaction with the host was limited to minimal communication throughout the duration of our 2.5 hour visit. He seemed more occupied with his laptop and cell phone than with his guests. It is common practice to ask about guests' satisfaction at the end of a meal - another missed opportunity that left me as a guest unnoticed and dissatisfied. Even the lack of a tip resulted in no response or inquiry as to whether everything was OK. The service error was particularly disappointing for a guest who had ordered vegetarian but received meat. Although the main courses themselves were tasty, this couldn't save the entire experience. In conclusion, for a visit costing ¬188 one would expect adequate hospitality and attentive service, which was unfortunately completely lacking here. An unfortunate visit that puts the star in the shade. PS: With all the criticism mentioned, the actually good food was almost forgotten. But even this couldn't make up for the overall disappointment.
