Nestled in the heart of Surrey, the Old Surrey Restaurant is the culinary life force of fine dining this side of the Fraser. The Old Surrey Restaurant, founded in 1975 by Spain native Valentine Aguirre, serves up fresh, inspired dishes with local ingredients including lamb and veal from the family's Chilliwack farm.
I visited Old Surrey Restaurant in a party of 5 on a Wednesday evening around 5:45PM. A few of us ordered from the Winter Set Menu, $90, which includes 4 courses. I ordered the Seafood Fettuccine and my husband ordered Rack of Lamb. - The Rack of Lamb was cooked nicely and portion was good for the price. - The Fettuccine was tasty too, but I could do without the mini shrimp (there were bigger shrimp too), and would be even better if there were more noodles. The presentation of some of the items were better than others: in particular, the shrimp appy on the special menu looked a little thrown together (but tasty). One friend ordered the prawn appy off the regular menu (Jumbo Prawn Diablo), but the prawns didn't look all that jumbo and seemed the same size as the winter special shrimp. The tableside Caesar salad was fun to watch. Standard options for dessert such as cheesecake, mousse cake, and creme brulee. I had the creme brulee, which was normal. Regarding service, there were some awkward points, but staff were overall friendly and attentive. We didn't feel rushed so we could enjoy the meal at our pace. One of our party wanted more seasoning in their pasta, so it is unfortunate that no one came by after main plates were served to offer pepper and ask if we needed anything. This is a pretty solid restaurant that seems family-run, and maybe used to be a house, which is cool! I would return again. Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
