For $17.95, they had a 14 piece Chirashi-don (sashimi on sushi rice). Alternatively we saw a 17 (or was it 20?) piece sashimi rice (rice on the side) for $3 more.
The sashimi were fresh, and tasted decent, so that's good.
Sadly, and more disappointing were the portions. Among the thinnest sashimi cuts I've ever seen. To add to our disappointment, my wife and I both found that each Chirashi-don bowl only had 12 sashimi cuts on it (and we checked independently and only found out we actually checked the same thing when I told the waitress that there's only 12 in the bowl). The waitress was kind enough to ask the sushi chefs to cut us 4 more sashimi's, which was great, and we saw that those salmon and tuna ones were better in thickness, maybe around 3-4mm (1/8 of an inch), and definitely more colored and less opaque, given the thickness, than the ones in the Chirashi-don.
The Uni sushi (sea urchin) was not as flavorful as most uni's we've tasted, so that was a bust.
Fine looking Uni sushi, but the taste was somewhat disappointing
A light salad, Miso soup and hot noodles comprised the side dishes featured by Niwa.
As restaurant atmospheres go, this one was simple but it had its Japanese elements, a nice small fountain garden and faux bamboo shoots and leaves by their glass panel frontage. I found it quite good in such a small place. They also had nice booths inside but since we were only 2, they sat us elsewhere. Better lighting for my pictures, though.
Have I had better sashimi's? Yes. Bryyer value, too. Buffet sashimi's are better and more generously cut so the ur value for money goes low. Service is great, not happy with the sushi chef's portion cutting, however.

-----------
Worth a try - So-so; maybe try their other special maki's or traditional teriyaki's and other savory dishes
Worth a return - Sorry, NO, I'll explore other Japanese restos in Oakville and the rest of Western GTA like Mississauga or Burlington and find a better one
