Not just a local gem, but a provincial treasure. Hands down one of the best hot sauce manufacturers in the world, with a great restaurant as well. Cannot recommend enough! Service: Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I noticed this spot, close to the Queensway and Bank Street, weeks ago and finally decided to stop in for lunch.Ambiance is fine, nothing exciting, but clean and comfortable. I likely would have felt the vibe of the place better if I weren't the only customer at that time. My understanding is that this restaurant is an off-shoot off a store that develops and sells hot sauces, a few blocks away.I ordered the chicken sandwich with mushroom and barley soup as the side, along with a diet coke. With a name like "Meow that's hot" I expected that the food would be spicy or at least tangy. It turns out that the restaurant is a venue for also selling their house- branded signature hot sauces so your food is accompanied by a tray of eclectic sauces. They ranged from island influence, wasabi-infused, to bbq and pretty much everything in between. I didn't find any sauce in the offering that was what i'd call "hot". I definitely didn't break out in a sweat or anything.I ordered the barley and mushroom soup with chicken sandwich. The soup was perfectly cooked, in terms of texture, and arrived nice and hot temperature-wise, but it was bland, necessitating some hunt-and-peck with the hot sauces to find one that seemed to work with it.The sandwich, with "spicy" grilled chicken was similarly inoffensive, with slices of granny Smith apples that were the only really noticeable tang. The bread was excellent, perfectly toasted with a great crust.Frankly, I don't know what to make of this place: I love the premise that the name inspires (spicy food) but having the customer have to fiddle with hot sauces to find the one or two they'll douse their food with didn't really work for me. I'd much rather that the chef decide the right sauce for me (and maybe surprise me) than leave it up to me to me. I get that this is a way to convince folks to buy their signature sauces and bring them home, but i'd really prefer to walk in, choose my level of spiciness and have it arrive cooked spicy (yes have a "no-heat" version for those that prefer to choose for themselves or hate spicy). Putting cold sauces into a hot soup tends to physically cool it down, right quick.I'd be curious to know how this works if you order it for take-out... because without those sauces, if you gave this food to someone and said "this came from 'Meow! That's hot.'" They'd try it and say "I don't get it, it's not the least bit hot. "The food was fresh, the soup, sandwich, and can of diet coke came to about $20.

Hi Thomas. Sorry the concept was confusing for you. We are primarily a hot sauce company, we started producing the sauces in 2007. The restaurant came about because we had grown to the point where we needed a full time kitchen for the sauces (instead of renting one or two days a week as we had been doing), and with our hospitality backgrounds we decided to add a restaurant as well. The menu isn't spicy because we want everyone to be able to enjoy the food and space, and of course the sauces are available for those who like the heat. We do include small containers of sauce with takeout, and are happy to add the sauce in the kitchen if requested. Sorry you didn't find the sauces on your table very hot, next time please ask and we will bring you something spicier!
