On the third time round, I ordered the Deluxe burger which was supposed to contain beef, caramelised onions, Portobello mushrooms and foie gras (hence its 12,50€ price). What I got was much below par. The foie gras was almost non-existent to the point I even forgot that it was supposed to contain foie gras, and the other ingredients were all stacked to one side. The bread was dry but the beef was good however. It doesn’t help that they serve the food in some sort of metal grilled basket, making it cumbersome to cut the burger up (whose idea was this??). The fries were soggy and oily. Service was terrible. Despite it being way past after 1 p.m. (the place closes at 2.30 p.m. for lunch) with only two other customers around, the waiter insisted I sit in a small table for two (I was alone) despite lugging around bags. He said it was in case a group of four decided to come. I looked around at the empty restaurant and resisted the urge to exclaim “Ah oui, je vois, il y a du monde!” (in English, “Oh yeah I could totally see that it’s packed!”). In the end, only another two customers came. I found the waiter to be a bit distracted and I saw him ask the couple in front of me whether everything was ok, but didn’t do so for me. I was also put off by the concept of the menu. A lot of burger chains and most restaurants in France have a set menu option where it’s supposed to be cheaper if you take side-dishes, drinks and a dessert, but not this restaurant. The Deluxe burger, soggy fries and a normal raspberry milkshake costed 19€, as they were counted separately. If I had known, I would have gone for the Le Frenchie burger foodtruck within the confines of the Fontainebleau palace just nearby. I guess there’s a reason why this restaurant was not filled with people.
