I gave my daughter a certificate for her birthday to this wonderful establishment, I was very worried whether she would like it or not, since my daughter is very well versed in seafood and it can be difficult to please her, she liked everything, she was delighted, she went there with her husband, and shared with me the most the best impressions, they took the bar card and said that now they will go there all the time! Many thanks to the girl, unfortunately I didn’t recognize her name, who worked with me, contacted me and explained everything and told me how best to arrange everything and all the nuances... If you’re looking for extremely fresh seafood (read: ALIVE) look no further than Lodka. Tho I rarely repeat restos while traveling, during a 2 week stay in Piter, I ate 3 meals here (1 lunch, 2 dinners) & had a great experience each time. They do not have a readily available menu in English (tho one waitress DID have a digital english menu on her phonethe other servers didn’t seem to know what I was talking about, lol). Just use the camera function on your Google translate app, & you’ll be fine (also helps that they can show you most of your options literally swimming around, heh). The servers (all 3 of them) spoke decent english as well, & were more than willing to help. This place has one of the largest live aquarium tanks for seafood in all of Russia (& THE largest in SPb, apparently). During my stay in town, I tried their oysters (great selection of a dozen or more on hand at any 1 time: Japanese, American, French, S. African, New Zealand/ Aussie, etc) . I feasted on their live sea urchin (not as good as Cali “uni”, but still delicious & CRAZY affordable at a half dozen for ~1300 rubles). I also did a tasting set of their shrimp (Tasting set 1) with the “Botan Ebi” the standout (note: Magadan shrimp are the Russian shrimp delicacies to get, if & when you can find them). I also had my birthday dinner here & went for a crazy splurge of the live Kamchatka (Russian King) Crab. They brought it by the table still squirming, then humanely “put it out of it’s misery”, before boiling it in sea water & bringing it to my table. It was AMAZING! By far the sweetest, most tender crab I have ever eaten. NOTE: apparently they are used to eating this crab COLD in Russia, so there was a bit of confusion when it took like 40 minutes for my crab to arrive (takes maybe 4-8 minutes to boil/ steam a non-frozen crab) . They had cooked it fresh, only to spend another half hour chilling it, & bringing it on ice with 2 cold dipping sauces (both mayo based1 tasted like 1000 island, the other was more of a garlic aioli). I prefer my crab HOT, with drawn butter, but chalked it up to “cultural differences”. I just yanked my crab off of the crushed ice (it was still lukewarm), put it on a separate ice-free plate, & then asked for the hottest cup of melted butter they could provide. I used this to both flavor & reheat the crab & voila, perfect. As I was traveling solo, the live Kamchatka crab was “a commitment” both in terms of price & stomach space, lol. But Lodka (thankfully) both had a smaller-sized King crab (1.8kg, when they’re often 2.2-4+ kilos) AND were priced significantly lower than other restaurants (750 rubles per 100g vs 1200+ per 100g elsewhere). WELL worth the investment, as it was an unforgettable experience (& one that is near-impossible to reproduce in the states, without an in-season trip to Alaska, maybe) Anyway, great food, great service.
