They say life is composed of fate and choices. Well, both of these brought my lady and I to Lazzez's Grill Indian Cuisine last Friday evening. We missed our turn-off for Fort Langley, and wound up in Coquitlam. Hungry, and craving Indian food, I searched Google for local Indian restaurants, and that's how we chose Lazzez's. And what a fortunate choice and twist of fate it was. Although a little awkward to find, as the 2700 blk seems somewhat split up on this stretch of Barnett highway (it is on the right if you're traveling East), it's well worth finding. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable. We were promptly greeted and seated by the owner. A friendly, wonderful man we were to find out later was named, Gagan. As we browsed through the extensive menu, Gagan recommended an Indian beer, Taj Mahal. Great recommendation. Nice lager/pils style beer! Our order was taken quickly. Very attentive owners and staff! We ordered: Garlic Naan, Chicken Pakora, Lamb Biryani, Chicken Vindaloo, and Mango Chutney. We were asked our preferred spice level, and both agreed to - HOT!The Pakora's and Naan arrived promptly. Both were fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully prepared. The Pakora's were tender, juicy inside. And lightly coated and slightly crispy outside. Delicious. Shortly after we finished the appies. Gagan's lovely wife served us the main courses, and another 2 beers ;-). My lady and I shared our plates. She is from New York, and has had Chicken Vindaloo in many "high end" Indian Restaurants. And she was BLOWN AWAY. She said it was among the best, if not the best she'd ever tasted. I love Lamb Biryani, and have been spoiled with very good Biryani....and this was the best I've had. Fresh lamb, cooked perfectly. Fresh spices and beautiful aroma. We enjoyed a few chats with both Gagan and his lovely wife (sorry dear that I couldn't completely recall your name). It's definitely a family affair. The chef is her brother. Just wonderful people. These young restaurant owners deserve success. So everyone out there....support them. They will bend over backwards to please your senses and your palate. Delicious food and service. You can taste the effort and love in every bite. And you're treated like a guest in their house. A wonderful experience. We will be going back every time we visit the GVRD!
