Très simple sur une semaine nous y avons mangé 3 fois. Excellent accueil, plats savoureux, cadre très sympathique, addition très raisonnable. Ce n’est pas un attrape touriste mais un excellent restaurant italien. Merci

I see many have already discovered this gem, but I have put off writing a review all these years partly because for so long it's felt like my little secret, my refuge in touristy Rome where I can get an amazing meal in a great atmosphere for a reasonable price. But I can no longer be so selfish! :)I first discovered La Fraschetta when I was living in Rome in 1999. Ezio ran the restaurant back then, though now it's Piero, but both of them make you feel so welcome the moment you come in. The decor lends itself to that feeling too: you walk in to a place which emits warmth and comfort at every corner. The place, with its red and white checkered cotton tablecloths and garlic and wine bottles hung from above, the delightful aromas that fill the air, all contribute to a feeling of coming home. I've tried most of the menu (by the way, there's no tourist menu in sight here!) - the food is so simple but so delicious, you can't believe it's so amazing. Even the bruschetta - in itself a very simple dish - is the best I've ever tried anywhere in Rome, Italy or elsewhere. The flavors are magical. The mussels soup is so incredible you won't believe your own taste buds - you'll order a basket of bread just to mop it all up and end up leaving the plate clean. Their carbonara (and I'm very particular about carbonara) is just as spectacular. Their meat dishes and pizza are also all great. Dessert? I rarely order it - but their mousse with hot chocolate sauce on top is irresistable.The place gets very busy so a reservation is very highly recommended, particularly on a weekend. The service I've found to be quite friendly and prompt, even at their busiest, and I've never had a complaint. The prices are totally reasonable, and the cuisine is genuine. You'll notice when you walk in that it's primarily locals here, and the few english speakers you'll find are the foreigners who live in Rome. Let me just say again that I used to live in Rome, specifically in Trastevere no less. In all my time there it would not be an exaggeration to say that I've eaten at 90% - 95% of the restaurants here. Nothing comes even close to a better dining experience. When I first discovered it back in 1999, I was so blown away that I returned every night for 3 months straight (except for Sundays - they used to be closed on Sundays but now they're open all week). The place is so special that I organized a surprise wedding proposal for a friend of mine who was looking for the right restaurant. Nothing too ritzy or flashy, just some delicious food in a warm, old world atmosphere and that was as authentic as his love for his now fiance'. At La Fraschetta they were so happy to help, they even provided a musician for the occasion.This really is a special place - it's no wonder I consider it my home away from home in Rome :)
