THE OLD KITCHEN I haven't posted pictures of dishes in restaurants for a long time, let's say that for me they have had their day. Unless they surprise me particularly for the surrounding situation such as the location, the empathy of the managers or the particular quality of the courses. At La Vecchia Cucina Campobasso I found all three. Although from the outside it does not arouse enthusiasm, as soon as you cross the threshold you find yourself in an astonishing place made of simplicity and creativity at the same time. In fact, having no space outside, the managers have recreated it inside giving it the appearance of a courtyard. The owner immediately welcomes us with a reassuring smile that does not fade in front of my every non-obvious request to be satisfied. She is very good and patient in curbing our physiological second thoughts in front of a very large menu and throughout the evening she always keeps an eye on the table to intervene at the RIGHT moment so as not to miss anything. The dishes speak for themselves but I want to add something. In an era where it seems to be cool only if the untouched surface of the plate far exceeds that occupied by the dish, I have rediscovered with pleasure, even to the detriment of my resistance, that there are still portions that only my grandmother or my mother-in-law felt free to give me. All for nothing at the expense of quality. Finally, it is one of those places where having bottled wine seems out of tune with the authenticity transmitted by everything else. And since the wine tells the story the next day, I'm glad I don't have to report any nasty surprises for the house cask. Last but not least. I don't know what are the dynamics that allow this place to charge prices of 10-15 years ago but certainly these are not to the detriment of the customer. I imagine that if the room filled up on a normal Friday at the end of August, the managers will have sowed well over time and that perhaps if it is a family business, they have managed to amortize otherwise unavoidable costs. Whatever the reasons (for the unthinking, I reassure them that I have the receipt) I'm really happy to have made this discovery thanks to my daughter Ester who already has a nose in this field that makes the various barbers on duty pale. Needless to say, if we happen to be near Campobasso, we won't fail to come back and pay a visit to this old but REAL kitchen! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
