The dinner, however, was magnificent! We began with an appetizer of smoked salmon that was presented with a fascinating seasoned oil that paired beautifully with the lox-style salmon. I've eaten a lot of smoked salmon in my time, and I can attest to this being among the best I've sampled.
For her entrees, my wife had prawns with risotto. Her verdict was that the prawns were quite good. The risotto was prepared in the broth from the prawns and had a beautiful smoky flavor.
I had a tuna steak (nearly raw, just the way it should be). It was accompanied by a slice of duck pate - something that would certainly never occur to me to do. The mix of flavors was simply delightful.
Dessert consisted of a simple shortbread topped with an apple concoction and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream, all surrounded by a magnificently light froth of (I'm guessing) ginger-infused cream.
The remarkable thing about this dinner, as has been the case with all of our meals in Paris, is that the portions are adequate without being overwhelming. Every dinner we've had has left us satisfied, but not "stuffed."
Our waitress was exceedingly helpful and very appreciative of our willingness to venture out of the areas dominated by tourists to catch the local flavor. I'd come back here any time!
