Nestled in the heart of the west end of Vancouver’s Davie Village, La Belle Patate (The Beautiful Potato) cleverly plays on the name of Quebec's famous restaurant chain, La Belle Province. This establishment seems to draw inspiration from its namesake, offering West Coast diners a taste of Quebec's beloved fast-food classics. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the "all-dressed steame" - a steamed hot dog adorned with coleslaw, mustard, and relish. This dish impresses with its authenticity, likely to satisfy even the most discerning hot dog aficionado from Trois-Rivières. The balance of flavors and textures in this classic Quebec street food is executed with surprising finesse. However, the poutine experience is a mixed bag. The Traditional poutine, featuring thick-cut fries, chewy cheese curds, and beef gravy, presents beautifully but falls short in execution (see attached pictures). While the cheese curds deliver the desired chewiness, the fries suffer from undercooking, compromising the overall texture of the dish. The beef gravy, diverging from La Belle Province's standard rich flavour, may disappoint purists seeking an exact replica of the Quebec original. Despite these shortcomings, it's worth noting that La Belle Patata's poutine still outshines many West Coast attempts at this Quebec staple. For those craving Quebec fast food far from its source, La Belle Patata offers a commendable option. Vegetarian options: Absolutely not. Parking: Very limited paid parking nearby. Kid-friendliness: Fast food hotdogs and fries. Kids love it. Sorry we fell short of your expectations. We actually do not use a beef gravy, but a flour base Traditional Poutine Sauce made in Quebec. We also don't overly cook the fries but we can absolutely make them extra crispy if you prefer that you can ask us and we will do that for you. Thanks for taking your time to write this review.
