On Sunday August 15, we decided to return to the restaurant l'Escale, which specializes in making delicious couscous. We had been there a few years ago and had fond memories of it. So, we take our car and head for La Capelle with the assurance of enjoying ourselves on this holiday. So we arrive on the scene. The decor is dated and very simple but clean. We are welcomed by a charming young lady who immediately installs us on a table for two people. She brings us two typed cards on which appear the dishes offered and of course the famous couscous. No wine and drink list! She asks us if we would like to have an aperitif. We each order a Martini. She brings back two glasses shortly after with a bottom of red Martini in each. Then she must notice how little the drink is and suggests that we add ice cubes, surely to give us the illusion of having something in our glasses. At the same time, she brings us pieces of undercooked industrial baguette, cut to pieces, to believe that they don't have a knife, with an assortment of sorts of rillettes and olives. Obviously, the aperitif is not their thing. But hey, we'll make up for it with the couscous... well, no! It was a big mistake to believe that. My husband had chosen the royal couscous which included an assortment of different meats and I had the lamb rib couscous. Another waitress than the one who had served us the aperitif, brings us a common soup tureen which contains the vegetables, a dish of lamb chops of very small size and certainly frozen, although not calibrated, for me, and a dish of meat consisting of merguez with synthetic casing from the local supermarket, a beef skewer, 2 lamb chops for my husband, a small bowl of chickpeas for 2 and of course a plain semolina dish without any seasoning, no raisins, no orange blossom, plain semolina just boiled in water. We open the tureen and there surprise! 3 thick chunks of zucchini along with 5 slices of carrots have been brooding in a sea of tasteless, water-stretched broth for so long it no longer tastes like broth. Good ! to accompany this slimming diet couscous, we would drink a small glass of wine. Except... there's no wine list. We therefore ask what they have to offer us in wine: two possible choices: Sidi Brahim or Bellaouane Go for Bellaouane. Except we don't have the price, since no card. The lady announces the nice price of 15 euros for a 75 cl bottle, which is very reasonable. Except that the bottle that arrives on the table comes out of the fridge even though it's red, and their fridge works very well so wine between 6 and 8 degrees. And oh the height of the height the bottle is uncorked! No cork on the bottle!!!!!!! So it is to bet that the famous Bellaouane is a famous table wine straight out of a brown plastic cubitainer at 10 € for 5 liters, most certainly a mixture of European wine vats. All of this smacks of fraud. So hello the DGCCRF for control. Such establishments are the disgrace of the restoration. Especially when you are asked for the modest sum of 59 €, it's expensive for the water broth and the 2-ball skewer. To be avoided until their final closure or a good recovery by a true catering professional. PLEASE....
