Yesterday afternoon I entered the bar with a black friend and her two little girls - born in Italy, who attend school in Italy -. I asked if there was seating and was told no. We ate everything standing at the counter. After a few minutes a white, straight couple enters, they ask if there is room, the owner asks the waiter who says yes and makes them sit on the upper floor. I wonder, if my friend and her daughters had been white, would there have been a place for us? If in doubt, I won't go back a second time.

Yesterday I went with my children to this bar, I had a soy cappuccino (I would add that it's about time that oat milk was also served in bars since soy isn't good for you, but on that in Genoa many are still behind ) two cannolini and a packet of crisps. They ask me if I take them at the counter or at the table and I say at the counter. While I drink my cappuccino at the counter I give the cannolini to the children and they sit at the table nearby. I ask to pay and the bill is €8. On the receipt I see €0.50 for table service, I ask why since I was at the counter and there had been no table service. The answer is that I was paying for the use of the table. I understand that in some places there is this additional payment for the table but I think it is also worth evaluating the case. Charging two kids who sat for five minutes I find really in poor taste, to say the least. Clearly it's not the 50 cents, it's the gesture. It's not just the 50 cents but also the other €2.50 for a cappuccino, €3 for two mediocre cannolini and €2 for a packet of crisps that will never let me set foot in L'atelier del caffè again. We came for an aperitif at around 6pm, on the waiter's advice we ordered the aperitif that "takes up the whole table", with drinks +€3.50. Nothing to say about the drinks, which were average, but to eat we only received a small plate each with sandwiches/toasts and a few chips. We asked for clarification and were told that unfortunately it was sold out and there was nothing else. We still paid full price, despite the small quantities.
