Is it cheap? Yes. But it’s so disorganised. After waiting in the queue for an hour it then took another hour to get 1 portion of fish and chips. Orders seem to come out randomly and in no order that makes any sense. On the plus side the fish was well cooked but the chips were basically raw Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2

They opened late. Service was very slow. Cash only, which is something I didn't know, but thankfully, I had enough cash on me. There is a universal ATM inside. Kalky’s isn’t your typical type of fine dining restaurant. In fact, it’s a bit rough around the edges. But that’s part of its charm as a Cape Town institution that’s been around since 1996 when it was established by the Rosslind family. The food is base and not perhaps suited for everyone, and the service can be a bit on the slow side. But eating here is more than the food. It’s a key part of the history of being connected to time and place. They don’t accept cards (and forget about smartwatch payments) so you will have to bring cash or use the ATM close by. There is outside seating at pretty rustic tables, though the portion sizes are generous. You will be required to wait in a queue, place your order and wait some more (sometimes as long as 40 minutes) for your order. It’s truly a restaurant from another era.
