I used to order takeout from Hui's at least once a week, sometimes more than once. Google won't give me enough space to write the whole story, so this is abbreviated, the whole thing is on TripAdvisor.

**Please note that ALL the staff there knew my face because I was there once a week! I would go in person to order, then sit at the counter to wait for my food, they'd chat with me here & there while I waited.**

Hui herself was always smiling & polite, and very welcoming, like you were a guest coming into her home. If this review was based solely on her, it would be 5 glowing stars.

I learned early on to ask for extra soya sauce whenever I ordered, because there was always only 1 packet (2 packets when I asked for extra.
So, this one day, it was the second time I was there that week (I had a lot of leftover fried rice, because we didn't have enough soya sauce to put on it, but nothing else, so I had gone back to order a chow mein for each of us.)
I casually said, "Could I please just get, like, a handful of soya sauce packets? Then I don't have to bug you each time."

Well this woman at the counter FREAKED OUT.

She started RIDICULING ME, saying, "A handful?? I'm not giving you a handful!! You'll just take it and then go order somewhere else & use it on THAT food!"

As she was going on & on like this, she's rolling her eyes & sneering at me, slamming stuff around behind the bar/counter. The other staff that was there averted their eyes & went about what they were doing.

Then this woman snatched my receipt up from the counter, looked at it & said, "You only spent $35, you don't spend enough, it's not worth it to give you extra soya sauce!!" and THREW the receipt back at me.
All I could say was, "Umm, you know I'm here at least once a week, riiiight? When could I possibly order from somewhere else to use that soya sauce?"

She spat back at me, "Go to Superstore & buy your own soya sauce!! They sell it there in big jugs!!"
I was so taken aback I almost fell over. If I hadn't paid yet, I would have just walked out.

I can't imagine ordering a burger & fries from Montana's and being screamed at to go buy my own ketchup to put on it.

I worked out the approximate amount of money I had spent at Hui's Wonton's up to that point (I averaged about $50 per visit, not including tips, mind you -- even though I was picking up , I STILL tipped the counter person!), so that worked out to $2500. (plus about $200 in tips).
And even when my job changed I would have still gone there every couple of weeks, and just ordered an extra dish to make up for only getting it every 2 weeks instead, or added a large wonton soup to take to work for lunch, so that would have been about $65-ish every 2 weeks.

So the $1 worth of Soya Sauce packets that this woman could have said "Sure, no problem" and put in my order?

Yeah, instead of that little dollar, her temper tantrum COST Hui's Wontons at least $1690 in lost revenue for the remainder of the year after the incident.
And about $130 in lost tips to whoever was taking my order.

In the total time since that incident, it's about $3380 in lost revenue. (plus tips)
JUST from me & my little family of 2 people.

All over $1 worth of condiments.

As good as the Chow Mein was, I just can't support a business with such a rude staff member! I don't know exactly where she gets off treating customers like that, but some people get a bit "high on themselves" when there are good reviews in the paper -- they think they're untouchable and can just do whatever they want to... so maybe that's what was going on?
But eventually that kind of treatment is going to come back & bite her on the butt, because without customers, a restaurant's got NOTHING. They can have the best food in the world, and a million 5-star reviews on the food, but with but with nobody to serve it to, it's a moot point!

If I knew for sure that woman was not a part of Hui's Restaurants anymore I would consider going back, but not as long as she's on the payroll anywhere in the organization.

Thanks for reading all this. :)
