Effectively the anchor tenant at Markthalle Neun (Market Hall Nine) in Kreuzberg is the Heidenpeters brewery. The brewing happens directly beneath, in the basement, and the brews are pumped directly into the 13 taps that you see here on the ground floor of the market hall. Although they don't serve flights, you can effectively customize your own by getting small pours of multiple brews. When I stopped by, there was only one lady holding up the busy fort, and she did so quite efficiently, pouring all the brews, handling all the money, and even handling deposits (which are required if you want to check out a glass, and are refundable when you return it). I enjoyed the Berliner Stange wheat beer and the Callista IPL - both moderately complex yet refreshing and drinkable brews, especially amidst a long day of walking and touristing around town. Even better: the free wi-fi that you can access here, which kept me glued to their side of the market hall as a means of conserving data on my U.S. cell phone's international roaming plan. A must-visit for beer lovers while in Berlin.
