Title: Disappointing Experience at Guelph Sushi 1122 I recently visited Guelph Sushi 1122 and I have mixed feelings. While the food had a decent taste, my experience was marred by a significant issue with excessive rice portions in all of their sushi dishes. Upon closer inspection, the hand roll I ordered was overwhelmingly filled with rice, with a meager piece of salmon. The same situation occurred with the spicy salmon roll. To address this, I ordered three salmon sashimis afterwards, but upon doing so, both the chef and waitress expressed discomfort and spoke about wasting rice in a very bad facial expression and attitude, i clarified that my preference was for fish/sushi, not excessive rice, and offered to pay for any unused rice. It became evident that the restaurant prioritizes maximizing rice portions to cut costs, a practice common in all-you-can-eat establishments, but Guelph Sushi 1122 took it to an extreme. Despite the sushi chef’s evident skills and visually appealing presentation, the overall experience was marred by poor service and a dismissive attitude from the staff. This was especially disappointing considering the lack of other customers in the entirely empty restaurant during my visit. The staff’s displeasure when I ordered additional salmon sashimi, citing my reluctance to consume the excessive rice, further diminished the overall enjoyment of the meal. In summary, Guelph Sushi 1122 offers decent-tasting sushi with visually pleasing presentations, scoring a 7/10 for taste. However, the positive aspects are overshadowed by the pervasive issue of excessive rice portions, lackluster service, and an unwelcoming attitude from the staff, making it difficult to recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable dining experience. Title: Unpleasant Return Visit to Guelph Sushi 1122 After giving Guelph Sushi 1122 a second chance on the same day I went with my partner for dinner, and the experience only worsened. Upon entering, the same waitress from earlier greeted me with a visible look of disgust, gesturing indifferently when I requested a table for two. I overheard her conversing with the chef, seemingly expressing dissatisfaction that I had returned. Opting for both All-You-Can-Eat and the regular menu for my partner, every time the waitress brought food, my polite thank-yous were met with silence and dismissive body language. After enduring around 20 instances of this, I gave up. My partner, noticing the odd behavior, questioned the waitress’s attitude, to which I explained that it seemed directed solely at me. When I requested my partner’s food to go, the waitress responded with an audible sigh and an attitude that conveyed frustration. She hastily threw two containers onto my table before briskly walking away, emitting an unmistakable sense of exasperation. Fed up with the disrespectful treatment, I’ve decided never to return to this establishment, despite spending $150 on sushi in a single day. Financially, it’s inconsequential, but I refuse to tolerate discrimination or disrespect. Guelph Sushi 1122 appears to lack customers, evident from the empty surroundings during my visits. Despite my potential to become a regular customer, their unprofessional conduct and discourteous behavior have lost them my business. For a better sushi experience, I recommend W Sushi in Guelph and advise steering clear of Guelph Sushi 1122. They don’t deserve your business. This is our go to sushi place, we always order takeout from here and are always so happy! The sushi is fresh and delicious! The Hotts and Las Vegas rolls are my favourite, but there are so many yummy ones, I keep adding to the list - Wasabi roll, bean curd roll, green dragon, smoked salmon....my list goes on and on!
