I ordered Mutton Kothu today and picked it up . It was so delicious. Excellent and no one to beat them . Very friendly and understanding towards customers. Thank god we have them in Oshawa. I will always recommend them to anyone. I’ll always give them 5 STARS

Garthy Takeout and Catering on Simcoe Street North in Oshawa is absolutely amazing! In short, this restaurant features homemade Sri Lankan cooking at its finest. I'm a huge fan of South Asian food, but I'll admit that I've never been a fan of mutton. But it was just freshly made, so I tried their mutton kottu (which also comes in beef and chicken), which is possibly the most flavourful dish I've ever eaten. Google "kottu" for a description of this complex dish. It's a dense mixture of a stuffed roti with many spices which is cooked and then chopped up very finely and spooned out. It tastes like nothing else. Ordering from a handwritten menu, this modest takeout spot must be experienced. Have a chat with the owners about Oshawa's small, but burgeoning Sri Lankan population. They also offer chicken/ beef / mutton / vegetarian curries, and biryani, as well as butter chicken and Sri Lankan and Indian desserts. You must try Garthy at least once before you die. Put them on your bucket list!The few negative comments I've read here are a surprise, so for the price of two Starbucks coffees, why not try it for yourself and see who's right? Today (8 months after my original review above) I ordered the chili chicken, brown rice, roasted eggplant, spicy cabbage and beets and carrots -- a giant 2-person helping of home made goodness for only $13. I stand by my original review. The food is freshly made and served hot, the flavours are simply stunning, and although I love spicy food, you might want to tread carefully through the menu if you prefer mild spices (ask the owner for guidance, she's wonderful). This small takeout restaurant is Oshawa's hidden gem. As always I experienced excellent service with a warm and friendly smile. Travel the world right at home and try it! Note: I visited recently, and the quality of the cooking and ingredients hasn't changed one iota. I had an order of curried chicken, and I stand by my previous review. This is home-cooked goodness, and the service was fast and polite as always. I see that some reviews here make claims that do not reflect my experience -- or reality. There are references to "table service" when this is a takeout restaurant, with a single table for the convenience of those who want a quick meal on-the-spot. It makes me wonder whether the writer(s) have even visited Garthy, or whether they have other motives.
